Familiarization with the implementation of the Radioactive Waste Decontamination Program Project in the city of Istiklol

TAJIKISTAN, March 30 - On March 30, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, got familiar with the implementation of the Radioactive Waste Decontamination Program Project in the city of Istiklol.

This project is being implemented in the Radioactive Mineral Dump, which was created in the 50s of the last century.

This project is being implemented on the basis of bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Russian Federation by the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan and the "Rosatom" Company of the Russian Federation. 110 million somoni are allocated for the implementation of works.

According to the data, the height of the wastes has decreased from 65 meters to 30 meters, and it is covered with stones, gravel and soil. At the final stage of waste disposal, greening measures are carried out.

Honorable Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, was informed that the Project of Radioactive Waste Decontamination Program was implemented in Istiklol city in four sections, the work on the first section has already been completed and the second section is underway. Decontamination works on the 3rd and 4th sections of the landfill began in the second half of April and will be completed at the end of May 2023.

More than 100 people are employed in this facility.

It should be said that in the process of decontamination, compliance with safety rules and handling of radioactive materials is constantly monitored by scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.

According to the indication, after the decontamination of the first section of the landfill, the level of radioactive radiation has reached the normal level, which is safe for the health of the population, the environment, and in general, all the surrounding living beings.

In order to implement the project in a timely manner, the necessary conditions for employees and specialists, such as a medical point, sanitary rooms, a place for washing special equipment and mechanisms, and an electrical substation have been built in the area close to the construction site.
