More than 2,000 workers will be deployed across Dubai to keep the city clean during the holy month of Ramadan, according to Dubai Municipality officials.
The civic body’s waste management department has completed its preparations ahead of Ramadan with a number of programmes and technical work plans focused on intensifying supervision and field efforts.

Waste disposal sites and timings
> Waste disposal sites at Al Qusais will be open 24 hours a day on a daily basis, seven days a week, with four work shifts.
> Al Bayada dump, allocated for construction waste, will be open from 5am to 5pm and from 9pm to 5am on a daily basis.
> The Habbab / Warsan dumps will function from 5am to 12pm throughout the month of Ramadan except Fridays.
> The Medical Waste Treatment Plant and the Hazardous Waste Facility will operate from 7am to 5pm
The municipality will deploy 2,200 workers and increase awareness initiatives to reduce waste production during the holy month.
The special cleaning operations will also focus on the cleanliness of highways and water channels like Dubai Creek, Jaddaf creek, Business Bay Canal, Dubai Water Canal, Deira Harbour Canal, and surrounding waterways.
Abdulmajeed Sifai, director of waste management department at Dubai Municipality, said the work plan for Ramadan has been completed, which will also include regulating and scheduling of work at the waste dumps of the department.
“We have provided all means and equipment to the field teams, which will cover the entire emirate through four round-the-clock shifts. We have distributed 242 additional garbage baskets near mosques and places of Ramadan events and Iftar tents,” said Sifai.
Emergency team
“In addition, we have formed an emergency team, consisting of 12 supervisory and regulatory staff, 65 cleaners prepared with the necessary safety equipment and tools and 37 different mechanisms for the immediate handling of communications and complaints from public during the Iftar time,” he said.
“On the other hand, the waste management department will launch the ‘Shop Smartly And Reduce Your Waste’ initiative, which invites shoppers to contribute to reducing waste through a variety of sustainable environmental methods such as using paper bags instead of plastic, in addition to reusing the household items instead of throwing them away, and contribute in waste segregation at home and purchasing only basic materials instead of luxuries.”
“The awareness initiative is being organised in cooperation with Lulu Hypermarket and a number of private sector companies, which will support in the implementation of awareness-raising programmes for the public and school students and awareness announcements on social networking sites. In addition, we will also organise recreational activities for the staff and workers of the department such as collective Iftar and cultural competitions.
