Fourth of July waste collection schedule, fireworks disposal tips
Omaha officials announced waste collection changes for the Independence Day holiday.
There will be no garbage or recycling collection on July 4, officials said. Collections scheduled for Monday through Thursday will not be impacted.
If your collection day is Friday, it is rescheduled to Saturday. Officials said to place material out for collection by 6 a.m.
Officials said the regular collection schedule will resume the week of July 7.
They also reminded residents to take care when disposing of fireworks.
Officials said to wait for fireworks to cool completely before putting them in the black-lid garbage cart. They are not recyclable.
It was also recommended to douse the fireworks with water.
Officials said residents are responsible for replacing any carts damaged by fireworks or melted from the heat of fireworks.
