Recycling centre evacuated after 'suspected device' found

A recycling centre in Wythenshawe was evacuated this afternoon after reports of a 'suspected device'.

The Longley Lane Household Waste and Recycling Centre, on Longley Lane in Sharston, was evacuated and closed as a precaution by the site manager at around 3.15pm.

A suspected device was recovered, but was later confirmed to be a battery pack.

The site has since reopened, customers have confirmed online.

On social media, users commented that they were turned away due to a 'suspicious package'.

However, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "The tip was evacuated as a precaution by the site manager, however the suspected device is a battery pack."
