Schuylkill Haven once again has been recognized for its commitment to forest management by being named a 2023 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. The recognition happened in honor of the recent Arbor Day holiday and honors the borough’s commitment to effective urban forest management.

Now in its 30th year as a Tree City USA municipality, Schuylkill Haven is one of 117 such communities in Pennsylvania.

The Tree City USA program was founded in 1976 to recognize cities and towns committed to growing trees. The program is led by the Arbor Day Foundation with partners at the U.S. Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters. It provides assistance to communities wanting to expand their population of trees.

In other business discussed at the May 1 borough council meeting, the final invoices were approved to be paid on the recently completed wastewater treatment plant upgrade.

There will be an electronic recycling event on St. Charles Street on Saturday, May 11.

On Memorial Day weekend, there will be a relaunching of the Hometown Heroes banners following the holiday parade.

Other upcoming events include the Rainbow Block Party June 6 through 8, the Schuylkill Rover Sojourn on June 14, Wine Walk and Wander on June 19th and a hard-to-read license plate replacement event on July 31.
