WITH THE three-day deadline given by the National Commission for Women (NCW) to the DGP, Karnataka, to submit a report on the “sexual abuse videos” allegedly involving the BJP’s ally — JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna — approaching on Friday, all eyes are on the recommendations the women’s panel will make in the case. Earlier, in the Sandeshkhali assault case, allegedly involving West Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma had met President Droupadi Murmu and recommended President’s Rule in the state. However, in the Revanna case, the NCW’s first reaction came on Tuesday, three days after the state government set up an SIT to probe the matter, following letters from the opposition parties seeking protection for women who lodged the complaints. The NCW called for prompt action against Revanna and sought a report outlining the measures taken.
National Green Tribunal’s judicial member Justice Sudhir Agarwal on Thursday rapped a counsel for seeking an adjournment citing the ongoing parliamentary elections. During a hearing regarding compliance of solid waste management rules, the counsel, appearing for the Karnataka government, sought an adjournment on the grounds that the state’s officials were busy in parliamentary election duties and hence not able to provide compliance details. Pulling up the counsel, Justice Agarwal said people cannot stop breathing due to the elections and that pollution issues won’t wait for the elections to get over.
