CARBONDALE, IL — The City of Carbondale will begin its annual Spring Clean-Up Program on Friday, May 3, to let residents of single family homes dispose of household items and rubbish.

According to a news release from the City of Carbondale, participants must place their rubbish on the curbside no earlier than five days prior to their collection day and no later than 7 a.m. on their collection day.

The collection day schedule is as follows:

  • Monday’s City Refuse Collection Route – Friday, May 3
  • Tuesday’s City Refuse Collection Route – Friday, May 10
  • Wednesday’s City Refuse Collection Route – Friday, May 17
  • Thursday’s City Refuse Collection Route – Friday, May 24

Items that will not be accepted for the program include electronics, tires, appliances, yard waste, contractor’s remodeling or construction material, and hazardous materials.

Electronics include items such as computers and computer accessories, televisions and TV accessories, Blu-ray and DVD players, MP3 and iPod players, and other electronics.

Hazardous materials include items such as paint, oil, gasoline, car batteries, pesticides, and other chemicals.

The city says yard waste can be disposed of by the city’s Landscape and Special Waste Sticker Program. However, residents or contractors are responsible for disposing of remodeling and construction debris using private haulers.
