HYDERABAD: While the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) and L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited (L&TMRHL) are working round the clock to launch metro rail operations on the Miyapur-Ameerpet (13 km) stretch of Corridor-I and Ameerpet-Nagole (17 km) stretch of Corridor-III  on November 28, there is an inordinate delay in the construction of parking complexes and provision of passenger circulation areas.

Between Nagole and Miyapur 13 parking and circulation areas were proposed, seven to be arranged by L&TMRHL and six by HMRL. L&TMRHL is to build parking complexes at Chalees Makaan in Ameerpet (1.69 acres), GHMC office near Parade Grounds ( 1 acre), Miyapur open land terminal station (5 acres), HUDA Truck Terminal, Balanagar (2 acres), Nagole terminal station (4 acres), Kukatpally (1 acre), Rasoolpura (1.50 acres of police quarters land). HMRL is to construct six parking complexes at Uppal, Secunderabad West,  Paradise, Madhura Nagar and Bharat Nagar.

But these parking complexes are yet to come up. If the government is keen on encouraging people to use metro rail, it should ensure that the required facilities are provided to commuters.  The entire 72-km-long metro rail network covering all the three corridors is to have 32  parking complexes, 17 to be built by L&TMRHL and 15 by HMRL. Corridor-I will run from Miyapur to LB Nagar, Corridor-II from Jubilee Bus Station to Falaknuma and Corridor-III from Nagole to Shilparamam.

Metro rail corridor to get white top roads
The Hyderabad Road Development Corporation limited (HRDCL) will take up 94-km stretch which includes the metro rail corridor and convert them into white top roads on a priority basis. The HRDCL was constituted to replace the city BT roads with white top roads that are less prone to waterlogging and potholes.
