Frontier Project Opens Its Doors to the Public

November 2, 2009

Day's events will include tours and 'green' workshops

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cucamonga Valley Water District and the Frontier Project Foundation will hold a public Grand Opening of one of the most sustainable facilities in the state on Saturday, November 7, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at 10435 Ashford St., Rancho Cucamonga. The public is invited to attend this free event.

A dedication ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. with a keynote address by Michael Woo, Dean of the College of Environmental Design at California Polytechnic University, Pomona. Guided and self-guided tours of the facility will begin at 11 a.m. Community groups will present workshops and provide other resources from 12-3 p.m.

Workshops will be offered by the Inland Empire Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, Arxx Corporation, Emerging Green Builders, and the Solar Store. Attendees will learn about weather stations, native plants, green financing, and about "Second Life," virtual world technology available at the Frontier Project. A preliminary schedule of the Frontier Project's 2010 programming will be unveiled at the event.

"We believe this opening day is the beginning of the Frontier Project's influence on the community to make sustainable choices that will make a difference beyond our region," said Robert DeLoach, Frontier Project President. "We want the community to use the facility to its full capacity and to count on the Frontier Project Foundation as an environmental resource."

The 14,000-square-foot demonstration facility, designed by HMC Architects and built by Turner Construction, includes the latest technologies in water, energy, and site conservation. With features like recycled materials, a live "green" roof, water cistern, cool tower and solar chimneys, by 2010 the Frontier Project expects to achieve LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification, the highest level afforded by the U.S. Green Building Council.

DeLoach said the Frontier Project Foundation Board of Directors is extremely thankful for the early and ongoing support and commitment of its Capital Partners: the Cucamonga Valley Water District, Turner Construction Company, HMC Architects, Chino Basin Water Conservation District, Herman Miller, Inc., GM Business Interiors, Labor Management Cooperation Committee, the City of Rancho Cucamonga, Filippi Winery, Nestle Water North America, Rain Bird Corporation, and Morrow Meadows Corporation.
